Um, Vic Toews? You might want to "re-think" that one.

I put re-think in quotation marks because Vic Toews has got shit for fucking brains and I highly doubt that he "thinks" about much of anything.

But here and here, Toews and his fellow harpercon scum are seen justifying removing Canadian Forces from helping with the clean-up after a Quebec flood, NOT apparently as punishment for Quebec voters having rejected harpercon villainy, but because they're worried that they'll displace private sector service providers inspired by the idea of profiting from their misfortune.
Furthermore, the services you're asking for -- if they were authorized -- would place the Canadian Forces in competition with the private sector, at the local or provincial level, which could perform this type of repair work.
Ah! But Vic! Doesn't the same logic justify having all our work in Afghanistan carried out by mercenaries and private prison contractors? Why should we deprive mercenaries of a chance to make a buck out of some misplaced devotion to archaic ideas about who should fight wars on the taxpayers' dime?

Where would you even find a private company that does that kind of clean-up?

Aahh, I knew there had to be a catch. I saw a news item when Toews said something sensible about prisons not being the place to treat mental illness, so there had to be something like this to restore balance in the universe

What is so wrong with using mercenaries? Mercenaries have been around as long as people have fought wars. They must be doing something right if it is an option that is still on the table.

And I thought this would have been self-evident to a brainiac like yourself, but I guess it will have to be spelled out for your itty bitty pinky brain: a tank makes rubble. It isn't very good at clearing rubble. Bulldozers are much better at that sort of thing. Private contractors, surprise, surprise, have bulldozers.

Rifle butts could be used to pound nails into wood. But it really isn't the right tool for the job. For that, you need a hammer. And surprise, surprise, private contractors have hammers and are skilled at using them.

Could it be that *gasp* the private sector is the place you want to turn to when you need construction work done.

Ah-ha-ha!

"Mercenaries have been around as long as people have fought wars. They must be doing something right if it is an option that is still on the table."

Why don't you go ask the harpercons about their plans to privatize the Canadian Forces?

And just because stuff has been around for a long time, doesn't make it good. Besides mercenaries, there's also con-men, kidnappers, assassins.

So the military doesn't have bulldozers?

You fucking moron.

Why not privatize the military? I fail to see the connection between being a criminal and being a mercenary.

I'm sure the military has bulldozers, but they have more tanks then bulldozers. The whole point of the military, you stupid hippie, is war. Soldiers are trained to kill and destroy, not to build.

If you want to use a pistol handle as a hammer, that is your prerogative. It doesn't make you a genius though, just a fucking retard.
