A Genuinely Embattled Minority

People who care about human rights, whether its a repugnican (or herper conservative) or Democratic (or Liberal Party) that's abusing them.

The problem is, Thwap, that human rights can be pretty bloody expensive and thus often constitute a systemic inefficiency which, if not effectively externalised, will expose wealth-creating instruments to the kinds of inhibiting forces that are, frankly, unacceptable in our increasingly competitive global market environment.

In other words, if the fact that some raghead loser is having his nuts crushed for the sake of national security has no measurable effect on the performance of my investment portfolio, why should I give a shit?

Because, you sarcastic fellow you, moral behaviour is supposedly one of the blessings of "civilization."

The political philosophy of "liberalism" is supposed to be about the dignity of the individual, NOT about how to make the individual crack on the outside chance that they know something that could impact on our safety.

Heh. Look around you, Thwap. The "liberals", neo-liberals, pseudo-liberals and crypto-liberals who run the Western Hemisphere are not going to care about political philosophy of any kind until someone tells them how to use it to enhance their golf handicaps or as a softer, more absorbent way to wipe their caviar-excreting asses.

Sadly true.
